Almost. I will try to put into words how much I love this novel, but I know I will be unable to adequately describe how brilliant it really is. It is a story you must experience for yourself to truly understand how utterly amazing it is.
I said again because this is the second time I am reading it. The first time was last December, and I had declared at that time that it was an absolute favorite of mine, and put it in my list of top 5 books, ever…
Reading it a second time has only strengthened and solidified it place on my top reads list. Just because I knew what was going to happen didn’t make it any less thrilling for me. My emotions were completely taken in, chewed up, and spit out just like the first time. But this time I realized just how amazing Tarryn writing style really is. It is not just the storyline that is brilliant; it is also her as a writer.
The Opportunist is full of quick wit, and frequent fitting analogies. No, it is not a humorous book, it is a romance. But it is titled so perfectly. Olivia is an opportunist, she is a liar, and a manipulator, and sometimes she is downright mean. But I never hated her; she is real, flawed, and desperate. She loved Caleb the only way she knew how.
“I am Olivia Kaspen, and if I love something I rip it from my life. Not intentionally…not unintentionally either.”When I called this a romance, I meant it loosely. It does contain a first love, second chance love, and a love triangle. But that is not really what this book is about. It is about lies, deceit, and selfishness—and how far one is willing to go to get the object of their desire. And in The Opportunist Caleb is the object, and Olivia was willing to do just about anything to get him.
Caleb is swoon worthy. I love him *sigh*
“The world bends for Caleb Drake and he is charmingly unaware of it.”
“He was such a mix of class and jock, romance and jerk; it made me crazy.”I feel you Olivia. I wanted to lie, cheat, and steal just to be with him too ;-) I won’t go into too much more detail about the storyline because I don’t want to spoil anything for you.
If you are in the mood for something light and fluffy, you are in the wrong place. This is a
tear-out-your-heart-and-stomp-on-it type of novel. It is filled with a roller coaster ride of raw emotion so fierce you will be gasping for air. And although I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger, per se—it definitely leaves you wanting more. The next book is in the other woman’s perspective, her name is Leah—and the book is called Dirty Red for a reason. She will Love You With Lies too. The third and final book has just been released and is aptly named Thief. It is in Caleb’s POV. I have been not so patiently waiting for this book for awhile now, and I am so freakin excited, but also scared. Tarryn likes to mess with your head aka give you a “mind fuck.” Just read these books and you will see what I mean…
“I think that after the first time you give your heart away, you never get it back. The rest of your life is just you pretending that you still have a heart.”
“It was the last real kiss of my life. I forever cling to that kiss. It was goodbye and I’m sorry and I love you so much. When it is done, he presses his forehead to my own one last time and then he is gone.
I am broken.”I HIGHLY recommend this book/series. It is an absolute
MUST READ!!! If you haven’t read it, put everything else down, and start reading it now—all three books are out now, so there is no excuse to wait any longer.
