Wow, what a creepy story! It was perfect for a spook right before Halloween ;)
While I have read horror before, I don’t read it often so this was refreshing change. It was more creepy and spooky and less horror–although there were a few horrific parts. I may have been a little scared to go to sleep afterwards but it was fun ;)
Jess our heroine is just months from starting college when she agrees to do a month long paranormal study. She was chosen because she has been seeing ghosts for years and is strangely unafraid of them. For unknown reasons she stopped seeing these ghosts recently after her father died, this upset her because she really wants to see her dad. So there are actually two reasons she is doing the paranormal study, money and the chance to say goodbye to her dad.
For Jess, the next couple of weeks at Siler House held nothing but amazing possibilities.
Upon arrival at Siler House she meets Allison, Bryan, Dr. Brandt, and Gage. All four of the “subjects” have special abilities, and Dr. Brandt is there to oversee the “experiment.” And although they originally think that they are there to “study” the house, they quickly realize they are being studied too. Why? We find out as the story unfolds.

The Haunting Season is told in dual POV, one Jess, and the other is her love interest Gage. Of course I loved Gage. He was a great hero, sexy, funny, and brave, but he was also guilt ridden. He has an immediate attraction to Jess but his main concern is not romance. Like the others he is there for another reason…
Considering I am normally a romance reader it was nice to have a romance in the book, however it was a back-story. If you are looking for a deeply romantic book this may not be a good choice, but if you are looking for a good spooky story this is great!
The writing was descriptive and it usually flowed easily. The only critique I have is that I was unsure at times when the POV switched between Jess and Gage. If there was a heading with the chapter break it may have been a little easier to distinguish.
Overall, this was a great fun read and I highly recommend it if you want to be totally creeped out ;)
Now she realized some things were not meant to be messed with.
