Spoiler-Free Review:
Losing Hope is a companion novel to Hopeless and is in Holder’s POV. I really liked Hopeless, and adored Holder so I was excited to get his perspective. And although there was a lot of crossover from the previous novel there was just as much new storyline.

We get to know exactly what happened with Holder and his sister, and how much this really devastated him. He is a broken boy when he meets Sky for the first time, and my hearts just breaks for him.

We also get some funny scenes with him and his friend Daniel, and Breckin too. It gave the story much more depth to see it from both sides.

This is not a standalone novel, you must read Hopeless first. I had read it quite a few months ago, so I don’t really remember all the details, but I remembered the basics. That is really all you need, but if you really loved Hopeless it wouldn’t hurt to re-read it prior to reading this one.

I would also like to point out the genre/category for this novel is Young Adult because they are in high school, but it sometimes has a New Adult feel. I say this because it is a little racier than your average YA book, it isn’t explicit but it doesn’t fade to black either. So I would say I recommend it for older teens only.

Now to what bothered me about Losing Hope. The guilt Holder places on himself for Hope’s abduction is just plain unrealistic. He was so young, like six “ish” which is entirely too young to even really understand what was going on, let alone feel responsible for it. And no Adult would have told him it was his fault, let alone the entire press dubbing him the boy who lost Hope—that’s just ridiculous. And considering this was a major part in the storyline, I almost gave it less than four stars.

But I couldn’t because Colleen’s writing is beautiful, even if her storyline’s tend to be flawed. I have read all her books, and really liked them. Flaws and all ;-)

I highly recommend this book to all fans of Hopeless because it will add to the storyline. And who doesn’t want to get more of Holder!;-)
